South Devon Countryside Inn Set For Christmas Reopening

The Rising Sun Inn, a traditional countryside inn sitting at the foot of Dartmoor, gives a real taste of rural Devon charm. And, following its short time on the market, amid strong interest and multiple offers, the pub is preparing for a Christmas reopening.

Occasion venue and new menu

Located in Woodland, a stone’s throw from Ashburton, this characterful, traditional country pub is set in nearly an acre of land. Though retaining many period features, including wooden beams, large open fireplaces, and many original stone walls, after a period of significant refurbishment, this stylish and popular Inn is now set to reopen its doors just in time for Christmas.

Looking to build on its reputation as a family-friendly destination Inn, the new owners are determined to create the perfect setting for any occasion. Catering for larger events including weddings, birthdays, and anniversaries, the commercial kitchen can produce a full range of good, home cooking to suit – including a new Sunday roast lunch menu in the New Year – that features locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.

Outdoor events setting

The porch dining area has comfortable seating for 16 covers, while the open plan lounge bar/dining room features seating C. 80 covers. And, together with its south-east facing grounds being opened up for outdoor events, the fully lawned beer garden still gives ample opportunity to experience outdoor drinks in idyllic surroundings.

And, due to come online in the New Year its four on-site en-suite letting rooms, The Rising Sun is also well placed to accommodate any parties looking to extend their stay.

Grand reopening

Having recently been closed for business, the pub’s new owners, Daniel and Julia Crisp, are having a grand re-opening on Saturday December 14th, following a substantial refurbishment and having seen the work first hand, Jon Clyne, Director at Charles Darrow commented: “We were asked to market the property, following the previous tenants exit and whilst we had plenty of interest, Daniel & Julia were the outstanding applicants. Their investment plan has reinvigorated the pub and should will secure the future trading viability of the pub. The property has been converted from a traditional, dark and dingy pub, to a fabulous, modern dining environment whilst also remembering the pubs rural heritage (muddy feet!).”

After an open event featuring a complimentary buffet and live entertainment, the pub will be open 7 days a week from 11.30am until late and will host regular live music in the coming months. Given its rural setting, dogs are always welcome – there are even facilities for hungry horses to feed and rest while their riders enjoy a drink and a meal.
