Brixham Harbourside Pub Sells After Multiple Bids

Exceptional trade, local popularity, and Grade II history were enough to see the sale of Brixham’s harbourside Crown & Anchor pub in December last year. With the previous owners serving their final pints, the pub received multiple bids before new owner, Erica Loasby, stepped in to purchase the pub off a guide price of £425,000.

History, charm, and accommodation

The substantial 3-storey, Grade II listed pub dates back to the early 19th Century and remains a much-favoured harbourside spot. Having the potential to be one of Brixham’s oldest pubs, the Crown & Anchor has history and charm in spades and continues to be a popular draw for tourists and locals.

The ground floor lounge bar benefits from an open plan trading area and comfortably seats (44) with tables and cushioned stool and bench seating. With the extended wooden bar servery offering a wide range of wines, spirits, and local real ales, the harbourside seating area at the front of the pub can cater for an extra 10 customers to enjoy the scenery outside.

One of the crucial points for Erica and the sale was the pub’s spacious owner’s apartment with views overlooking the harbour. Covering both first and second floors, the two large bedrooms and self-contained living and kitchen space give both on-site convenience as well as privacy, with access to its own rear courtyard.

Freehold sale

Coming to market for the first time since 2004, the Freehold asking price of £425,000, attracted plenty of interest as well as multiple bids. But it also highlights the current – and ongoing – appetite for licensed venues which continues to prosper across the region.

With Erica’s speedy offer accepted, the pub’s mix of locals and tourists can look forward to many more years of thriving trade. Erica plans to keep the pub running ‘as is’ whilst also introducing a small food offering (mainly crab sandwiches!).

On the sale, Charles Darrow Director, Jon Clyne, commented “With all the recent good news around more pubs opening than closing, this is another example of a popular, community pub selling under competitive market interest. The C&A is an iconic Brixham pub and we look forward to it remaining the same for many years to come”.
