A Wonderful Move to Torquay: Kim and Trevor’s Story
Lyn recently dropped in to see Kim and Trevor, who celebrate nine years as owners of the beautiful Elmdene B&B in March 2027. Having made the move from the Midlands, they have thoroughly enjoyed their new life in Torquay and the rewarding business they have built together.
Kim and Trevor told Lyn how warmly they have been welcomed into the local hospitality community. They love being their own bosses and the rewards make it worthwhile; The freedom to take holidays throughout the winter months, giving them the opportunity to travel to destinations all around the world!
Hospitality is nothing new to the couple. Before moving to Devon, they ran a café in the Midlands for around 28 years, bringing plenty of experience in making customers happy. Since taking over the Elmdene, they have built up a thriving business, with many guests returning year after year. As Kim says with a smile, “We must be doing something right!”
Kim and Trevor take pride in making everyone feel at home. With the 5 stars, gorgeous en-suite bedrooms and their award winning breakfast, it’s no wonder that guests come back time and time again.
The Elmdene is just a short level walk to the seafront and all the amenities in Torquay, with its beautiful gardens and lovely seafront walks. Torquay also offers plenty of choice when it comes to eating out, with a wonderful variety of restaurants on their doorstep, their favourites include Pier Point for its superb fish and chips, as well as Tides, the Yacht and Ephesus.
Moving to Devon has also brought some wonderful friendships. Making great friends locally, while their friends from the Midlands come to stay regularly, in fact, they see some of their old friends more often now than they did when they lived closer !
Looking back, Kim and Trevor have every reason to feel pleased with the decision they made. They have created a successful business, enjoyed a wonderful lifestyle and discovered all the pleasures of living in Devon.
All in all, moving to Torquay has been a fantastic decision for Kim and Trevor — and with so many happy guests returning to Elmdene year after year, it seems they really have found their perfect place by the sea!
