Multiple lockdowns, along with homeworking has seen a stronger desire to move away from the bustle of the UK’s larger towns and cities.
Regional Property Agents, Charles Darrow have been inundated with requests from homebuyers who have decided now is the time to look for an alternative and take the plunge and relocate to the South West’s countryside or coastal areas. Many of them seeking a lifestyle change by buying a Village Store, Post Office, or a B&B in a seaside town.
There have been winners and losers because of the Covid-19 pandemic and now with lockdown restrictions easing significantly, businesses such as Convenience Stores and Post Offices have been identified by lifestyle buyers as being a low-risk opportunity, having been unaffected by the pandemic.
With Britons currently restricted from travelling abroad to take their holidays, the South West’s B&B’s and hotels are now benefitting from a significant boost in trade and lifestyle buyers are looking to take advantage the current staycation trend by snapping them up.
A lot of buyers are selling up and releasing significant equity in their homes to use for a better lifestyle and being able to live and run a business from the same place has also changed the way people think about commuting and for some people it is no longer a location decider.
Being close to family has also become a big decision factor for some on whether they should relocate.
The result of these factors is the rise in the migration to established market towns and vibrant coastal communities in the South West.
The regions property ‘hot-spots’ are attracting people who want to be part of a more traditional community with emphasis on local, as well as potentially more property for their money.
The reasons above are just a few of many on why the South West has become such a desirable area to relocate to.
Paul Heather, director of Charles Darrow said: “The lifestyle business market in the South West is booming and covers all ages and backgrounds, but typically they are buyers moving away from cities or suburbia, looking for countryside or coastal locations and to immerse themselves into a different way of life.”
