Exmoor Based Tearooms SOLD

Posted: Wednesday 27 March 2019

Whortleberry Tearooms, a traditional, period property nestled in the heart of Porlock village, has sold to new owners, Mr & Mrs Buller.  The unique destination of Porlock, located in the shadow of Exmoor National Park, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, sits just 6 miles west of the popular seaside town of Minehead.  Porlock, a tourist hotspot renowned for its picturesque, heather-clad hill walks and glorious coastline is an independent village with a good selection of shops, cafes, restaurants and places to stay.

 19th Century charm

Whortleberry Tearooms, which traded as a fruit and veg shop by the Westcott Family from 1923 was purchased by the former owners, Steve & Anne who have enjoyed making Porlock their home since 2014 and have progressed the tearooms forward since their arrival resulting in robust trading figures and healthy NET profits, which has recently been aided with the introduction of a self-contained holiday cabin, knows as the “Whortleberry Studio”. With the previous owners now moving on to other ventures, Mr & Mrs Buller are ready to build on its success.

Big plans for the future

Mr & Mrs Buller, who are well established in the sector following a number of successful years at their previous tearooms, will continue trading this well-followed business to the same high standards with plans for future refurbishment, a revitalised menu, and additional opening hours to please the loyal following of locals and regular visitors to Porlock.

James Sanders Associate Director at Charles Darrow Commented: “Whortleberry Tearooms is an exceptional business that attracts an eclectic mix of customers all year round, hence achieving a robust sales figure”

“Mr & Mrs Buller have taken the business over at the perfect time and will no doubt capitalise on the forthcoming season, we wish the new owners every success in their new venture and home!”

With a No.1 rating on TripAdvisor, and over 250 5* reviews, Whortleberry Tearooms is one of the most popular restaurants and tearooms in the area. Under new ownership, it looks like its continued success is in safe hands.
