Bancourt Hotel Sold on a confidential basis

Posted: Wednesday 23 May 2018

Commercial property specialists Charles Darrow were tasked with engaging with appropriate purchasers, on an off-market deal, after the hotel was ravaged by fire in June 2017.

Asking seeking offers in the region of £1.2m, The Carlauren Group purchased the hotel in quick fashion.

The company have a track record of renovating properties and transforming them to provide premium residences for long and short-term stays.

The Group, which is looking for further acquisitions, will turn the Bancourt Hotel into a care home consisting of around 45 apartments, with residents having the option of receiving 24-hour care.

It will include fine dining and a bar, a cinema, a hair and beauty salon and spa, including a heated swimming pool and gym. Residents will also have access to a large secluded garden area.

It is the latest in a long line of hotels sold by Charles Darrow across Devon and Cornwall.

Charles Darrow director Jon Clyne commented: “We were delighted to act for Alan and Kimberley Taffinder in the sale of the Bancourt Hotel, which has been closed since a serious fire in Spring 2017.

“Our instructions were to dispose of the hotel on a discreet basis and we had much interest.

“We felt, given the size and position of the hotel, it was likely to attract bids from developers and operators from other niche markets and that is exactly what happened.

“We wish the Carlauren Group every success and look forward to their plans being welcomed by Torbay Council and local residents.”

A spokesman for the Carlauren Group commented: “We are pleased to have acquired this property.

“Our business specialises in renovating properties to beyond their former glory to create luxury accommodation for later life living.

“Such properties are operated by us as Care Homes or Lifestyle Resorts, depending on their individual nature and location.

“We are currently developing plans for the Torquay site and will release news of final use and the exciting features of the property closer to its opening next year.”
